Is it Bad to Sell My Beloved Bag?

December 7, 2006 at 3:08 pm by Designer Ella

Delilah BagRemember the Coach Medium Carryall I just died to get? Remember I called her my baby and named her Delilah? Remember all the posts about her?
Well, for a little while I’d been thinking about selling my beloved bag to upgrade to the Large Carryall, because I just can’t do even medium bags anymore! Is that bad and wrong of me when I called her my baby and said I gave birth to her? She was my child with COACH?

Is it bad that I’ve done it, I’ve sold Delilah? Is it bad that I’ve shipped her out, that she’s gone?

You’re not mad at me, are you? You don’t think less of me? Can you still take my bag love seriously?

Well, I’ve learned my lesson. I won’t get that attached to a bag before I even have it. Who really can commit to bags? They’re not children at all! They’re just lovers in passionate affairs—often brief.

It’s a Rainy State

December 4, 2006 at 3:00 am by Designer Ella

Sometimes my Nans gives me money and tells me not to spend it, to put it away for a rainy day.

But you know I’m constantly encountering rainy days.

Every few months I have a budget crisis.

Or I discover I need a new bag or three.

Anyway, this month is one big rainy snowy time, my friends! And there’s a storm right now.

(Hmm, I think this means I need that All-Weather Leather Dooney I just purchased!)

An Anti-Fur, Pro-Cute-Lambs Gal Bought Shearling: Am I Guilty?

November 29, 2006 at 6:40 pm by Designer Ella

Since the cold of last winter in my cute beret hat, I’ve wanted earmuffs, but good earmuffs are hard to find. Burberry had ones to match my cashmere candy check scarf, but they were expensive … and had shearling lining.

Shearling is like fur from lambs - cute lambs. They’re farm-raised, but babies, and they’re not necessarily from free range farms (the only meat I’ll buy from the market, although I’m not too wealthy, is free-range all natural). Still, shearling is not the same brutal thing as fur. I can be anti-fur and okay with shearling, maybe, right? …

J. Crew Shearling Tweed EarmuffsA trip into J. Crew browsing scarves led to me amazing earmuffs, grey to match my coat, or a tan plaid to “go” with Burberry, sophisticated … shearling lined.

I touched them. Nice. I put them on my head … and felt murder. Or really what I felt was the guilt of loving them sooo much. So soft! I put them down to ponder them for one day.

I ended up thinking about them nonstop for two weeks. Until I couldn’t wait to get them, no matter my morals. Until they nearly sold out and I snatched the last grey pair. Merchandise credit + $9 and they were mine. I wore them out of the mall (tags and all).

And my guy best friend approved okay but teased me, “go on, say f*** you to the sheep.”

But I love them, I can’t get enough of them, they’re the warmest earmuffs could possibly be - which practically is reason enough, right? And I rationalize that sheep are farm-raised, it’s not at all the same as fur. It’s just … lambs are so cute! I couldn’t eat something like that (or I hope I couldn’t), what am I doing?

My BFF also called me an eco-poser. I have been slowly declining in my environmentalism for years. I hated wood until I wanted to get a guitar (okay, I was a nutty little 12 year old), then leather until quality shoes and luxury bags (ooooooooh, leather so soft!). I’m a hypocrite when something I stood against suddenly and selfishly works for me.

Here I am again, unraveling in my identity over fashion.

Operation: Sandbox Last Grain

November 25, 2006 at 10:51 pm by Designer Ella

Operation: Sandbox - Last Straw Grain = Pursed Lips was sandboxed after it moved, even though it was an older site. This does not need to happen! It just doesn’t! One needs to do a 301 redirect.

I did the ol’ “We’ve Moved” message you see everywhere. Well don’t do it! Look up 301 redirect on Google and follow instructions.

But when the ‘we’ve moved’ didn’t do it enough and there were many hits and links to the old home, I took down content and within the Word Press admin, pointed pages toward the new home.

Finally, I did the one thing that probably really killed Pursed Lips. In my htaccess file I blocked /pursedlips from being crawled.

Soon after PursedLips.net was in the sandbox.

Well, now I’m about to do the last thing I can (before waiting) to get it out. To get that PR 5 back (and hopefully then some somewhat after).

I put the content back on ol’ /pursedlips, and now I’m about to link to it again. After a while, I’ll put on a 301 redirect.

Help me in my project, link to http://www.kissmestace.com/pursedlips!

And even: www.PursedLips.net

Thanks so much!

*Update* I was confused before, but I think I’m trying this method correctly now. One also needs to set the last updated info back with some code. Find the original article at Search Engine Watch.

On Blogging to Imaginary Friends in the Sandbox

October 21, 2006 at 8:00 pm by Designer Ella

There is this mysterious and sort of hidden (well completely hidden, you know?) part of Google known as The Sandbox. It fits right in with this month/week (Happy Halloween!) as it is a horrifying concept—or reality—to many who know what it is and most who are stuck within. What is it? New domains (and not all new domains I’ve personally felt) are pushed out of Google’s results and—let’s face the reality—hidden to most of the world.

How can Google do this? Why? Entry continued, read more »

Guess What Happened at the Wedding?

October 7, 2006 at 9:30 pm by Designer Ella

You may know (but you probably don’t) that my cousin Jackie was getting married. I was a bridesmaid. I can’t really tell any of the good stories now that I’m back blogging more again, because all I can think of is one of them …. …. ….

Guess what happened at Jackie’s wedding?!

Toss an Hermès Bag off a Tower? Inconceivable??

October 6, 2006 at 6:37 pm by Designer Ella

I just noticed a film in French on, so I started watching it. The movie turned out to be Le Divorce (thanks digital cable).

Then I noticed a Kelly bag.

At the last moment of the movie I watched ;-\, Kate Hudson tossed one of the most expensive bags in the world—an Hermès bag—off of the Eiffel Tower.

Trés =-O

I think I need to mourn. I’m appalled at this movie.

But it’s still on in the other room, and there’s an auction (not for the discovered bag, le sigh) … so at least I can brush up on my numbers. (That’s $4 million!)

Dangerous Matters?

September 27, 2006 at 5:15 pm by Designer Ella

There is so much to write about with my cousin’s wedding quickly approaching, but I don’t have time for it all—or much of anything. But another bit of news in my life is that I have a 2nd annual Birthday trip to visit my best friend, and now that those liquid restrictions have been adjusted for the better, I feel great about booking the tickets and going!

The whole thing is very silly, and no fashion blogger could put it better than The Fray’s Mochi,

I would have purchased this [perfume] while browsing around the airport in Houston. But, you know, it might have been a bomb.

How silly to sell it during the inane ban? How silly the ban is/was. And how smart of Mochi to put it in fashion terms! Great writer and addition to the blogging community!

All I know is I now can have an actual cold soda (warm + ice ≠ bubbly [but does turn to water]) and I don’t need to attempt to get a pharmacy label for my lip balm, after all. (Apparently those are two other things I’m addicted to, in addition to handbags.) I’ll be sure to pack a full baggie-sized amount of my needs.

Fashion Week from the Rest of Us

September 23, 2006 at 12:25 am by Designer Ella

What is it like blogging about fashion week for those not there? It can be tough, of course. (I covered some styles at Kiss Me, Stace and Pursed Lips.) In some ways, it’s better than being in forced-duty–24-hour–on–call–reporting though, right? Of course!

With the New York week well over, I have some thoughts.

I found it difficult to know how much to post, since I’m not there, and I’m reviewing what people can see themselves, I wonder how many people care. Natch; I think every blogger faces this issue.

Another issue is exactly how to blog. I like to review clothing, pick my favorites, and point out what’s wrong. (That used to be the way we all did it.) But my blogger friend Maria from The Runway Scoop did it in a new and great way, she spotlighted others’ viewpoints and experiences, and she kept us posted about all the related news. What’s better is she did this several times per day, each day. And apparantly it exhausted her. Fantastic job, Maria!

Well, I can get burnt out. I’ve loads of errands lately, school, family and then each show and each spin in each post takes effort, and it’s hard to turn it back on to a completely different show or aspect.

Am I bad? Oh, and I’m not even finished — soo long after! So much to do, so much time passing…

C’est la vie?

(Late again, needed to get photo:) Recent handbag: Coach Pebbled Leather Satchel–Black — v. 1: Teal Flower Charm.

Named My Baby!

August 30, 2006 at 11:12 am by Designer Ella

My baby Coach, that is!

My baby Coach Delilah

It’s been a whole month, but when I look at her now, I just see it: Delilah.

There’s also a cute/sad story. There was a cat that visited my cousin LaLa’s place around Tasha’s death, which kept visiting. I received this bag the day after. I thought I’d name a pet cat Delilah. Odd story, but I’m not getting a cat anytime soon, so it works for the bag instead. (Are bags my pets? Okay, I’m straying too far from my view that bags are my lovers. [Are bags my everything?])

If I ever get a cat, oh well, I’ll have two Delilahs.

Thanks for all your naming help. It was fun! But ultimately, naming is personal.

Now, I’ve decided I need this Coach Hamptons Signature Medium Carryall in black, as well! And I might name it Delia, but I must have her in my hands to feel that it’s right, first.

(By the way, last week she was added to stores and on Coach.com. Bummer but I got a lot of special/pre time with her about!)

(Footnote, forgot this:) Most carried recently: My baby Coach “Delilah” carryall
